I have aspirations to be a writer. I am not sure if it is something I would be any good at since I tend to
move quickly from one thing to the next. I have a novel I have been sporadically working on for several
years. Unfortunately I never have much time for it. I have also written a couple of children's books that
are still sitting on my desk waiting for me to illustrate them. Life seems to always get in the way of my
literary work. But I have produced several social essays over the last few years that I think may merit a
peek into the light. There have been a few stage plays as well but I think they are best left to the dust
of a closet.

But I do have a few things I would like to show if I may. They may not be Dickens or Twain but I am
reasonably proud of them. So for your viewing… I will take a gamble and say pleasure I have included
the prologue from my novel, a few poems that I am particularly proud of and some of the essays that I
have written. I hope to add more as I go.

Be kind. Be gentle. Enjoy.

The Essays
Normally I could care less about politics. Anyone living in America knows that every two years we get to
be inundated with ads on television, newspapers and magazines while ever news outlet starts filling its
chosen medium with story after story of the impending election. It has become a part of out lives and
fodder for the media. After more than thirty years living with this cycle I tend to ignore it while I do my
own research into who would make the best candidate. It has become white noise.

But here lately the elections are being pushed further into my purview than ever before. They have
evolved into something that I just can’t dismiss and this change is not one for the better. Instead of
seeing opposing politicians divided by party lines we are now being treated to ridiculous displays of
screaming, squabbling and name calling. It has become so virulent it has spread to within the parties
themselves now. But I must say I am appalled and saddened by the out right hostility being presented
by our so-called political leaders. Instead of having some dignity and debating the issues of the day
like civilized and educated people they are choosing to war with each other like six year old bullies on a
playground. I think the thing that I find shocking about this is not their reprehensible behavior per say
but the fact that these are the people that are supposed to be leading this country and fashioning our
future. And to make matters worse we have all of the different sides being egged on by groups of
political militants with horrible attitudes and foul mouths of their own.

Is this what we have been reduced to, petty bickering? What happened to common courtesy and
respect? I realize that not everyone is going to agree but taking our arguments to this kind of level is
completely unwarranted. And I have to ask if these are the only people we have left that can run for
public office. I hope not. I don’t want this kind of volatile petty people representing me.

So I would like to put out a call to our political leaders out there to clean up their acts and clear the riff
raff. As our leaders you should be better than that and the American people should expect better as
well. We need to find our dignity. So I say shame on you and shame on us.
